Almost 18 months more or less we have been waiting for this wondrous day, event and moment. The stars had to be aligned as not only do we celebrate Luis Fortunos and Pierluisi's win. We celebrate a wonderful and miraculous moment in history. The USA has elected its first African American president. Both here and in the mainland an unquestionable win of historic proportions. Last night I sent a text to my sister who had the PRIVILEGE to vote in one of if not the most important election in the history of the United States of America. We here in Puerto Rico had to sit by the sidelines and hope others would make history for us.
With the overwhelming win of Luis we came closer with our relatives up north and after eight tumultuous years we can extend or hands out to the mainland not for a handout but for an embrace, we are not friends, we are family. As our election proved here on the island we are united by an unwavering support of the principals of democracy, life, liberty and yes as good Puerto Ricans the pursuit of happiness (sometimes we take this last principle a bit to close to heart).
Luis and his team proved we can have a campaign on the issues, with the respect and civility which is be the benchmark and standard for all others to follow. With this campaign it is much easier to reach out to others of different ideology and work to solve the daunting problems which lay ahead of us. Our island is in desperate need of healing. We can now sit down and look forward on how to tackle the issues. We will once again be the beacon of the Caribbean. The island where immigrants came from all over the world to try their hand at the great American dream.
World hold on we are back, not with a vengeance, but with courage, inspiration and hope that we will make things better. Thank you Luis and your team. Godspeed
